The LEA's own report, which was compiled in conjunction with the school, dispels the misinformation and conjecture put forward by the Fairplay for Fairfield flyer.
"...our school is in danger of being without adequate facillities for sport..."
96.7% of the school's requirement can be met onsite for less than half the cost of installing an artificial surface.
"...inner city pupils will need suitable grass facilities for PE - for football, rugby, hockey athletic and cricket..."
The Purdown option will mean hockey being carried out on an artificial surface. The proposed route of the athletic track would have to cross both grass and artificial areas. Half the existing cricket pitch would be taken up by the artificial surface.
"...these playing fields will enable students to change at school and walk over the footbridge to start their lessons..."
Since 97% of classes would be fulfilled with onsite facilities anyway, there would be no need for a footbridge. Two of the other options, for the extra 3% of offiste lessons, already have onsite changing facilities.
"...allow more time and space for sport..."
96.7% of sports lesson requirement will be met onsite already with existing pitches, regardless of where the additional statuatory provision is located.
"...provide sports facillities for whole community use..."
As long as you are under 18 and only want to play one match at a time. Other options provide pitches adults can use
"...stop money being watsed bussing children off-site..."
Kids could be bussed for 38 years to the two better options for the cost of developing Purdown
"...reduce time wasted..."
only 3.3% of lessons would need to be off-site with the two better options.
"...prevent pollution and congestion from 100's of extra bus journey's per year..."
Only 68 sessions would need to be off site per year. Even with the three extra pitches on Purdown option, 13 double lessons per year would need to be provided offsite.
"...avoid the need for extra chaning rooms or storage off site with associated problems with vandalism and security..."
Next to Bristol Shoguns, Dings RFC is the best Rugby club in Bristol and is well respected within the community. They have successfully managed problems of vandalism and security for many years.
"...encourage confidence amongst local peple to reclaim Purdown as their own safe space for recreation..."
More than 96% of people surveyed said they used the space on a weekly basis and were against any changes to it. How can they reclaim it when its fenced off?
"...give 1000's of inner-cit students access to decent outdoor sports facilities for many years to come..."
The two better options would provide SIGNIFICANTLY better facilities for less initial outlay
"...we must not accept a poor second best in sports provision, which will have repercussions for years to come."
THEN DONT USE PURDOWN!
